FAQs

What makes TAM different from other programs?

I have designed The Anchor Method from years of interacting with personal training clients. I realized for many of them the physical goals were secondary to personal growth. Building trusted relationships with my clients made a bigger difference in their lives than the training itself. So I developed The Anchor Method:

In the first 45 minutes, I guide you through a specific strength program. You and a partner take turns rotating through a variety of exercises. As your partner lifts, you spot and encourage them. This enables you to learn exercises quicker and have proper rest time.

Then we transition from the gym floor to the yoga mats to conclude the hour session. This is a calm and peaceful space to cool down, stretch and discuss the reflection of the day. The reflections consist of different topics centered around mental health, physical health and well-being. I challenge you to use this time to get out of your comfort zone. You aren’t forced to share, but I encourage you to think and journal your answers. In a busy world, this time is essential to practice stillness and build community. You then leave the studio feeling stronger, healthier and more confident than when you first walked in.

What are some of the reflection topics?

Talking about mental health is not a comfortable topic for many girls. The idea behind ending the session with a reflection is that after working out and getting their heart rates up, the girls are now more comfortable and ready to share. Trust has been established within the group, which makes this time a little less scary. I have already witnessed some very shy girls gain confidence to share more with the group.

Isn’t strength training dangerous for my child whose bones and muscles are still developing?

Under the correct supervision, strength training is actually very beneficial for children. We will work with higher repetition and lighter weights and ensure proper form. Safety is my biggest priority. The class size is limited to 10 girls so that your child will be closely supervised.

Strength training will allow your daughter to become more aware of her body movement, improve balance and simultaneously learn how to listen to direction, follow and then perform. If your daughter is comfortable and ready to participate in organized sports or activities, then she is ready for The Anchor Method.

Benefits:

  • Helps build strong bones, muscles & joints

  • Reduces stress, anxiety & depression

  • Improved cognitive performance & classroom behaviors

  • Decreases the risk of high blood pressure,

heart disease, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes & cancer

  • Builds lean muscles & reduces fat

  • Instills consistency & goal setting

  • Strengthens mind-body relationship

  • Improves mood

  • Fosters lifelong healthy habits

What are some of the things my daughter will do during the strength time?

I understand the importance of building a firm foundation when it comes to strength training. Your daughter will learn how to properly and safely perform basic exercises to strengthen her entire body, including push, pull, rotational, hip-hinge, squat and plank movements. She will perform functional exercises that will help benefit her posture, coordination, core strength, mobility and prevent injuries. I understand that every teen will be at a different fitness level. I will ensure that there are modifications and advancements for every exercise so your child will always be safe, but challenged throughout the class.
